HISTORY
Palazzo Mazzatosta is located in the downtown of Viterbo, between the lanes inside the medieval intact walls of the town and the medieval aristocrat family’s majestic historical buildings. It was build in XI century firstly like a fort, than it was transformed in noble residence; in the following years has been used in various ways: it was outdoor cinema in the 1950’s, after a boxing ring and finally Richiastro location in the 1980’s.
Outside of Palazzo Mazzatosta you can enjoy the majestic “profferlo” (outside stairs built in peperino, supported by arches) that leads upstairs and a balcony supported by two arches whith a parapet decorated by two small trilobate arches. The restaurant has found his place in the two wide medieval rooms inside the building used in the past as stables, embellished with a large fireplace and local and non local artist’ s artworks. In summertime you can eat in the piscturesque interior garden used in the past so that passers-by could not see noble family’s activities, whose name was precisely “richiastro”.
